Injured striker of Levante, Felipe Caicedo is not called up by Ecuador’s coach

QUITO (AFP) - Striker Felipe Caicedo, who on Sunday (20) was injured playing for Levante in Spain, was not called up on Monday (21) by the coach Reinaldo Rueda for the matches against Colombia and Peru.
Levante confirmed on Monday (21) that "Felipão" is suffering from tendinitis in his right leg, causing him to be replaced on Sunday (20) at 4 minutes of the second round of match in which his team won the Deportivo La Coruna for the Spanish League.
The striker was one of the seven "legionnaires" called up by Rueda for duels against Colombia in Madrid on Saturday (26), and against Peru in Amsterdam, three days later.
The commander told reporters he regretted the absence of Caicedo.
Moreover, ruled out to call up another athlete, making his current team of 19 players, play friendly matches in preparation for the Copa America in Argentina-2011.
Ecuador is part of Group B of the tournament, with Brazil, Paraguay and Venezuela, while Colombia is in Group A with Argentina, Bolivia and Japan. Peru is in Group C with Uruguay, Mexico and Chile.
The Ecuadorian team will be on concentration on Sunday (20) and travel on Monday (21) evening to Madrid. The trip to Amsterdam will be on March 27.
