SANTIAGO, March 30th 2011 (AFP) – The draw ( 1-1 ) against Portugal and the victory on Colombia by 2 - 0 marked the good first match of the new Chilean team coach. The argentine Claudio Borghi changed the standar of game, managed to increase the income of some players but kept the good sense which devoted his predecessor Marcelo Bielsa, and yields a positive participation on South Africa World Championship.
It was a difficult debut for any coach, especially by the fact it is succeeding the popular Bielsa, who in three years at the helm “de la Roja” could build a new team, change the Chilean game and classified his team to a World Championship after 12 years in absence. Even thought by the identity that the Chilean team and fans had with the Bielsa, and the particulars of his games that brought many risks.
Borghi imposed its way into the game against Portugal and Colombia with greater ball control and no trace of the frenzied attacks of Bielsa, traits that showed a football more elaborated.
To the sports editor of La Tercera’s newspaper, Michel Nahas, “Chile team changed his way, but not his essence”.
“One would think that between planning Marcelo Bielsa’s absolute freedom and control that exists suggests Claudio Borghi a world difference, but it still is offensive”, he wrote in his daily column.
Now, Borghi must solve a problem: ensuring strikers for the American Cup, that will happened in July in Argentina, and play with the same efficiency that the team had with Bielsa.
The matches, however, allowed the new coach, some players leverage, as the creative driving Matias Fernandez, who scored on two occasions with stunning long shots, in addition to working closely with the team.
“We have to know how to deal with Matias, he has always had a good income, I want to give more freedom so he can let loose and show his strength “ Borghi said to the press.
The Chilean team has scheduled more two games against Australia and China. And then must begin preparing to American Cup, where he will face Uruguay, Mexico and Peru on the first round.
