MEDELLIN, June 19, 2011 (AFP) – Atletico Nacional became, this Saturday, Colombian champion of the national league and already has its place in the 2012 Copa Libertadores, after defeating La Equidad in the penalty shoot-out by 5-3, in the final match of the Torneo Apertura.
The Nacional’s goals were scored by Dorlan Pabón and Carlos Rentería, while the La Equidad goal was scored by Roberto Polo in the last minute of the match, so the confront ended 3-3 in the aggregated score.
Nacional, commanded by Santiago Escobar, won the penalty shoot-out because the goalkeeper Gastón Pezzuti saved three shoots, and Nacional only lost one, becoming 2011 Colombian champion.
“This victory is the result of an intense work with all the players’ heart and also the technical staff. Now we will try to maintain the level in the Torneo Finalización with an eye in the 2012 Copa Libertadores”, said the coach Escobar.
