Costa Rica announced the list of 22 players that will go the 2011 Copa America


The names of Costa Rica’s players, who have been selected to play in the Copa America in Argentina, were presented today. It will be the country’s third appearance in the competition.
The AZ Alkmaar (NED) goalkeeper, Esteban Alvarado, and the promising Joel Campbell topped the list of the 22 selected players for the national team, informed the local press.
By a Concacaf’s request, Costa Rica will play the 2011 Copa America with their Under-23 team, and with only five players 23 and older will face the Copa America: Johnny Acosta (27), Heiner Mora (27), José Miguel Cubero (24), César Elizondo (23) and Randall Brenes (28).
Below is Costa Rica’s list for the 2011 Copa America:
Goalkeepers: Esteban Alvarado (AZ Alkmaar, NED), Danny Carvajal (San Carlos) and Leonel Moreira (Herediano).
Defenders: Johnny Acosta (Alajuelense), Francisco Calvo (San Jacinto College, USA), Óscar Duarte (Saprissa), Kevin Fajardo (Santos), Jorge Gatgens (Pérez Zeledón), Pedro Leal (Puntarenas), José Salvatierra (Alajuelense) and Heiner Mora (Saprissa).
Midfielders: Hansell Arauz (Santos), José Miguel Cubero (Herediano), Allen Guevara (Alajuelense), David Guzmán (Saprissa), Luis Miguel Valle (Alajuelense) and Diego Madrigal (Cerro Porteño, PAR).
Forwards: Randall Brenes (Cartaginés), Jorge Castro (Saprissa), César Elizondo (Saprissa), Josué Martínez (Saprissa) and Joel Campbell (Saprissa).
