Argentina coach expects “support rather than pressure” in the Copa America

BUENOS AIRES, June 13, 2011 (AFP) – The Argentinean coach Sergio Batista said last Monday he expects support rather than pressure for Argentina, since the team is considered to be one of the favorites to win the Copa America, which starts on July 1st, in Argentina.
“We know the pressure is more intensive when playing in one's own country, but these players are used to it. There will be impatience, and we must be aware that a match has 90 minutes of play. I hope there is support rather than pressure,” said Batista after a practice with the team.
The team led by Batista will be a candidate for the title, but will also carry the burden of all its losses, since Argentina doesn't win an international competition for 18 years. The last time was in 1993, during the Copa America, in Ecuador.
Batista agreed that Argentina “has the duty” to win, and emphasized that the path to succeed brings a lot of pressure down to it. On the other hand, he claims that this experience may be supportive for their “most important goal: the World Cup 2014," in Brazil.
