BOGOTA, June 13, 2011 (AFP) – The Colombian National Team initiated last Monday the practices to play the Copa America 2011, which will take place in Argentina between July 1st and July 24. The practices included the 21 players called-up to take part of the competition, but the only exception was the striker Teófilo Gutiérrez, Argentine Racing remarkable player.
“We have a very positive attitude towards this opportunity, and we are training the best as possible to achieve it," said the goalkeeper, David Ospina.
The training took place in the Colombian Football Federation field, in Bogota. Seventeen Colombian players, who are currently placed in European and Mexican squads, took part of it, besides four players that belong to national teams.
Colombia, champion of the Copa America 2001, will face two more friendly matches before the Cup. On June 22 the team will play against Mexico, in Pereira, and three days later, on June 25, the team faces Senegal, in Medellin. In the following day, the team is traveling to Argentina.
